Diptych, waiting to become triptych; “o’ Badly” is in fact being processed. The plates are zinc and sheet and have been shaped. The processing was carried out with etching on a matrix and with aquatint and drypoint on the second matrix, then inked separately and printed with print log.
The work refers to the characters of the Neapolitan drama: The first is the positive protagonist, fair, productive and father of family, who possesses all the characteristics of the ideal Mediterranean man. Virility is the quality that distinguishes it particularly. She is the object of desire, the cause of conflict between the two men, the element that triggers the opposition. At the same time, she is also the weakest link in the work, the traitor, the one who, by yielding to her instincts, can be saved only by the true male. It is for the woman that man risks losing his honor. The last is a young man who, excluded from society and reputed a coward, opposes the hero by embodying all the negative sides of the human soul. A recurring plot is that of the prisoner who, betrayed by his wife and a friend, when he returns to freedom he takes revenge on his own regaining the respect of the community. The drama can only end with a confrontation between issus and ‘or badly. But before we get to the end inevitably take over secondary characters who line up for the hero or the antagonist: the mother, the son and a comic personality.
The play allows the audience to see themselves in the scene creating a strong empathy with the characters. People actively participated in the story by showing their dissent or approval of the protagonists’ actions. After all, the themes on which the drama is still based today are love, honor, passion, jealousy, honor, betrayal, parental relationships and above all the struggle between good and evil.
